Choosing a skip size
Mini skips (2 to 3 cubic yards) suit small home clearouts, midi and builders skips (4 to 8 yards) suit renovations and garden projects, and roll-on-roll-off skips (20 to 40 yards) are for large commercial or construction work. Some items cannot go in a skip, including fridges, mattresses, tyres, paint and other hazardous waste, so check with the supplier.
Permits for skips on the road
If the skip will stand on a public road rather than your driveway, a permit from Milton Keynes City Council is required. Most skip hire firms arrange this for you and add it to the price. A wait-and-load skip can avoid the permit for very short jobs.
Do I need a permit for a skip?
Only if it is placed on a public road. On your own driveway no permit is needed. The skip company usually arranges any council permit for you.
What cannot go in a skip?
Fridges and freezers, mattresses, tyres, paint, plasterboard in some cases, and hazardous waste. Ask the supplier for their list before you fill it.
